Hi all,

Sorry there was no blog post yesterday, I have been having some trouble publishing them. If you notice there isn't a post please send me a message on dojo so I can try to go in and fix it. Yesterday's is now posted and we read it together this morning.

We started the morning off with a guided meditation. Afterwards we had a grammar class about articles. From there we moved on to Science and talked about wind. After break we went up to the computer lab to practice language and math skills on IXL. During Math we learned when to place zeros in the quotient. In Social Studies we focused on why America joined the war and the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Monday January 9, 2017

Hi everyone,

Welcome back to our first full week of quarter 3.

This morning at assembly students who made honor roll were recognized. Congratulations to Fiona, Grace, and Marianne from our class. Thank you for your hard work.

During our first grammar class, we learned about adjectives that come after the be verb. In Math, we learned how to divide money. We are on schedule to finish Chapter 9 by this Friday so our first math test of quarter 3 will be on Monday January 16. In Science class we talked about air pressure. It's a complicated concept so we drew lots of pictures to help us understand!

Friday January 6, 2017

Hi everyone,

This morning we did some silent reading and then moved onto Math. First, we reviewed yesterday's lesson and corrected the homework. Afterwards we moved on to lesson 9.2 where we learned how to place the first digit of the quotient. Everyone caught on quickly and so after the lesson students worked in groups for more practice with their individual whiteboards while I called students up in pairs to do extra practice on the board with me. What a productive period! During Social Studies we reviewed what we have learned so far about the atmosphere in Europe prior to WWII. Then, we talked about the Axis countries actions which led Britain and France to declare war on them and thus start WWII. During Reading class we learned about mood and tone in stories. To demonstrate tone I wrote a sentence on the board, I didn't take your red hat, and showed students how putting the emphasis on different words changes the tone. You can try it too! Put the emphasis on the italicized word:
I didn't take your red hat.

I didn't take your red hat.

I didn't take your red hat.

*Please read page 494 The United States Debates Going to War and 495 The Attack on Pearl Harbor from the text. Any words that are difficult to read or understand can be looked up on dictionary.com to help. Write the title of each section and then a short summary of the important points.
If the text is difficult for you to understand you can google the titles to get some more information. Here are a video about Pearl Harbor to help you:

Your assignment, in your Social Studies notebook, should look like this:

The United States Debates Going to War

Summary of about 4-5 sentences in your own words.

The Attack on Pearl Harbor

Good afternoon everyone and Happy New Year!

A very special HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our sweet Marianne who turns 9 years old today. Thank you for treating us all to such delicious cupcakes!

This morning we welcomed each other back and talked about our holidays. Afterwards we spent a little bit of time coming up with individualized resolutions for 2017. Students chose one personal and one academic themed resolution or goal.

I handed back all of the exams and students had a chance to look through them and ask any questions about how they were graded.

Later on in the morning we reviewed lesson 1 from our weather unit in Science. Next we moved on and started to talk about different types of weather and how they form.

In Social Studies we started our next unit on World War II.
