Friday May 5, 2017

Happy Friday everyone!

This morning we began by learning how to write five senses poems. We had a pretty fun time writing one about Taiwan together. Afterwards, students blindly picked a topic out of a pile and for homework they will have to write two 5 senses poems about their chosen subject, one that has a negative theme, and one that has a positive theme.
In Math we reviewed what we have learned about double bar graphs and moved on to circle graphs. We talked about how circle graphs can be represented in fractions and how we can use those fractions to figure out the actual number they represent. It was a lot of information but they worked hard and were able to get it and actually aced their workbook practice!
During Social Studies we learned about the Vietnam War. Students were very interested and had a lot of thoughtful questions.
During last period we learned about the freedom of free verse poems. I set a timer for two, and then three minutes and students tried their best to write continuously the entire time. We had some really beautiful ideas come through!

HOMEWORK:

LANGUAGE:

On your poetry Google doc:

*Write 1 positive and 1 negative themed 5 senses poem for the topic you chose today in class. Be sure to follow the correct order. Be creative!

*Write a free verse poem about anything you like! Be creative and try to use unique adjectives and verbs to help your reader visualize what you are saying. Every time you start a new sentence, go to the next line.

*Please copy down the idiom of the day into your notebook. You only need to copy the idiom and its meaning, not the sentence.

A Taste of Your Own Medecine
*When you are mistreated the same way you mistreat others
Example: Amy is always playing jokes on her friends. Someone is going to give her a taste of her own medicine someday

*The idiom of the day is a toss up!*
