Hi everyone,

Thanks for a fantastically fun day today. We enjoyed working together and taking down the classroom decorations, going over exams, and having a class party at the end of the day.

*Tomorrow please bring a reusable bag to bring home the rest of your things from the classroom

*You will need to bring healthy snacks and your pencil case tomorrow, but the rest of your books and things may be left at home.

*Please take a look at the newsletter that was sent home and have your parents fill out the short survey and return tomorrow.

Good afternoon everyone,

This morning we enjoyed a guided meditation and visualization activity. I have been reading a new story aloud to the students so we spent some time doing that this morning before going up to the computer lab to work on the poetry anthologies. Afterwards, during Science, we did an online interactive lesson about how to observe chemical changes. Everyone participated happily!

Everyone picked a name out of a jar today and they had to do something extra kind for that person today without telling anyone who they picked. Tomorrow we will try to guess who picked us!

Tomorrow is your first major subject exam so please get a good rest tonight and eat a healthy breakfast tomorrow.

Happy hump day everyone!

We had a great day today. This morning we did a great meditation combined with a visualization technique. Afterwards I answered some questions about the poetry anthology assignment and later we went up to the lab to continue working on it. In Science students worked in partners to read, discuss, and pick out the main ideas from the text about chemical changes.

You're all wonderful and smart and kind and sweet and I can't believe we only have 7 more days together!

Good afternoon everyone,

This morning in lieu of meditating we did a Dojo activity that taught students how to breathe mindfully to promote relaxation and to calm feelings of anxiety, stress or anger. Afterwards we talked about the final project that will include putting together all of their fabulous poems into a poetry anthology. We will be working on this in the computer lab this week and it will be due on Monday May 22. Afterwards students split into small groups to do some grammar review and practice in preparation for Friday's Language exam. Next we went over yesterday's Science activity which compared physical and chemical changes. After break we went up to the computer lab where students began editing their poetry and completing the final tasks for their anthologies. In the afternoon we started a new Math chapter and learned about points, lines, and line segments.

*Please spend 5 minutes studying your notes from today. 

*Spend 10 minutes practicing W.4 Lines, line segments, and rays on IXL (We have not learned about rays yet, however, if you use your inference skills you will be able to figure out what they are very quickly).

*The idiom of the day is: an arm and a leg!

POETRY ANTHOLOGY

Please follow these steps:

1. You will create your own poetry book cover. You may hand draw this or create it using the computer. Include a title for your poetry collection, your name, grade, and the year. There must be an illustration or clip art added to the cover. You may choose from one of the following titles: My Poetry Anthology, My Poetry Collection

2. Table of Contents (list all of the poem types and the pages that they are on. Remember, only one poem per page).

3. Edit your poems to see if you can make them even better.

4. Make sure there is one poem per page. You can choose the font and size for each poem. You must include the type of poetry at the top of each page as well as a title of your poem.

5. Each poem must include a colored illustration. Illustrations may be hand drawn or printed from a computer clip art program.

6.You will read three poems written by other authors and give your opinion on them. Please search for four different types of poems by different authors. The title of this page will be Poems I Read. Please copy and paste the poem and make sure to include the author and the the title. Underneath the poem you can write a few lines to tell what you think of the poem and how it made you feel.

7.  Next will be a reflection page. The title will be Poetry Reflection. Here are some questions to help you:

Write a few thoughts explaining your feelings about writing poetry. 

Did you learn some new things? 

Which poems did you enjoy most? 

Did your feelings about poetry change as you completed this unit? 

Did you have fun writing the poems? 

Which poems were your favorites? 

Did your mind change from the beginning of the unit to the end of this unit?

Which poems were the most difficult to write? Why?

Include any other comments or feelings you have about poetry.

8. The last page will be called About the Author. Please write a paragraph about yourself. You can include things like, your name, age, where you were born, your family, your grade, YOUR TEACHER! Please also include how long you have been writing poetry for, whether you prefer to read or write poetry, and what inspires you when writing poetry.

Happy Monday everyone! Welcome to your second last week of the school year.

Today, after assembly, we had a lesson on the remaining idioms that will be on the exam. We had fun playing a little review game. After break students had their Chapter 15 Math assessment. It involved them making two different kinds of graphs and I was impressed with their work. In the afternoon during Science we reviewed physical and chemical changes and students worked on a sorting activity to demonstrate their learning.

*Begin studying for exams!* Your first exam on Friday and is Language so you should study that first.

4. Thursday May 25 our Honors Assembly will take place from 2:30-4:00 pm. Parents are welcome to join.

5. Friday may 26 is our last day of school and it will be half day. Students will attend the graduation ceremony which is scheduled to end at about 11:00 am. They will be dismissed at 11:45 am.
