Tuesday November 29, 2016

Hi everyone,

What a busy and fantastic day we had! This morning during Grammar we learned about how to spell the past tense. During Social Studies we arranged the chairs into a circle, read the assigned article about the Great Depression and then had a discussion about it. Some of it was an open conversation, where students were encouraged to participate and share their ideas, and for some of it I posed questions that students had a chance to respond to. Overall, they did a great job and it was a rich learning experience. We had fun in Science learning about the ever present, amazing, water cycle! Students each had to explain the steps we learned today to me before they could go for Chinese and were rewarded with a sticker on their forehead! =) During Math we learned how to regroup in division. At the end of the day we celebrated being finished our first novel study on The Witches by watching the film. Throughout students had to fill in a Venn diagram to compare and contrast the film with the movie. This will be be used to transition into our next form of writing; compare and contrast essays.

Remember to go slowly, write nicely, and line up your place value columns when doing your homework tonight! Afterwards we made an editing checklist for students to use while working on their narratives. We went up to the classrooms with the checklists and the kids worked on editing and adding to their stories. I was impressed seeing all of the improvements! During Social Studies, we sat in a discussion circle to continue talking about the Great Depression. The kids had a lot of great questions, keep them coming everyone!
