Tuesday October 25, 2016

Hi everyone,

The internet is back up and running at Dominican! YAY! Thank you all for your patience.

This morning during Reading class I introduced the novel we will be using for our second quarter novel study, The Witches by Roald Dahl! We watched a video that told us a lot of interesting facts about the author and I showed students a book in our class library entitled, "Who Was Roald Dahl?" that they can refer to for more information. We read the first chapter and talked about our first impressions of the story. Afterwards I gave students the first batch of vocabulary words.

Next we did some excellent pronoun review and started the planning and pre-writing process for our personal narratives. Later we went up to the computer lab and students used an interactive tool from Times Kids to start organizing and typing up their narratives. During the rest of the week we will concentrate on editing and adding to them, and including as many awesome adjectives and vivid verbs as possible.

During Math we reviewed order of operations and had a fun little learning competition to demonstrate our understanding. Afterwards we continued our Algebra chapter and started to learn how to write expressions with variables.

In Science class we began our fourth unit on energy and ecosystems by learning about the differences between habitat and niches, and population and communities.

Moving along Grade 4 and as students head into Middle School they will be using computers more and more and so it is important that they practice their typing skills.
