Your Language exam will consist of the material learned in our weekly Writing and Grammar classes. This means you are responsible for all of the information in your Work on Writing, Language and Word Work notebooks.

Writing

1. Short Responses to Literature

*I can respond to literature using the ACE method.
*Answer the question clearly by using the question to start your answer.
*Text evidence to support your answer. (Shows that part A is true)
*You can use direct or indirect citations in your answers as evidence.
2. Main Idea

*Be able to read a paragraph and summarize the main idea.

3. Great Sentences

*I can create great sentences following the pattern: describer (adj) + subject (noun) + vivid verb
Example: The proud father snapped photos.
OR even better would be: The proud father snapped photos of his embarrassed daughter.

4. Creative Writing

*Use your imagination and your list of vivid verbs and awesome adjectives to write something creative and exciting based on a topic given to you. (For example, if you are given a newspaper title from Peculiar Post, you should be able to create an original, fun story to match the title.)

5. Personal Narratives

*Be able to write a true story of something that happened to you.
*Your narrative should include transition words.

6. Writing a Paragraph

*Write a well sequenced paragraph with a topic sentence, supporting details, and a concluding sentence.
*Your paragraph should include transition words.
