Quarter
2 Science Exam Study Guide
For
the Quarter 2 Exam you will be tested on the information from Unit 3 Lesson 5,
Unit 4 Lessons 1, 2, 4, and 5 and Unit 5 Lesson 1. You are responsible to know
and understand all of the vocabulary in this study guide as well as the
information from the textbook, the online lessons, and any activities or notes
in your Science notebook.
Unit 3 Plants and Animals
Lesson
5 How Are Living Things Adapted to Their Environment?
Vocabulary: Environment, Adaptation, Physical
adaptation, Behavioral adaptation, Instinct
*Define and explain the terms environment and adaptation.
* Define and explain physical and behavioral adaptations.
*Recognize physical and behavioral adaptations in plants
and animals.
Unit 4 Energy & Ecosystems
Lesson
1 What are populations, habitats, and niches?
Vocabulary: ecosystem, community, population,
habitat, niche, producer, consumer, decomposer

and niche.
*Distinguish between population
and community.
*Describe the relationships between producers, consumers, and decomposers.
Lesson
2 What are food chains?
Vocabulary: food chain, herbivore, carnivore, omnivore, food web
*Demonstrate that a food chain shows how energy moves
from producers to consumers.
*Recognize that energy for most food chains begins
with energy from the sun,
*Distinguish between herbivores, carnivores, and
omnivores.
*Recognize that organisms higher in the food chain
are affected by changes in the number of organisms lower in the food chain.
Explain why all animals depend on producers such as
plants.
*Be able to make an example of a food chain that is 3-4
levels
Lesson
4 What are natural resources?
Vocabulary: natural resource, renewable resource,
nonrenewable resource
*Define and explain the term natural resource.
*Explain the importance of natural resources such as water,
animals, and plants.
*Explain the importance of energy sources.
*Explain the importance of forests, soil, and land.
Lesson
5 How do people impact ecosystems?
Vocabulary: pollution, conservation, endangered species
*Describe how human activities affect ecosystems.
*Define pollution and
conservation.
Unit 5 Weather
Lesson
1 What is the Water Cycle?
Vocabulary: water
cycle, atmosphere, evaporation, condensation, precipitation, runoff,
groundwater
*Identify
each part of the water cycle.
