Friday January 24, 2017

Happy Friday everyone,

This morning we began with the Terabithia test, which overall, students did very well on. During Math we learned how to change units of capacity and weight. In Social Studies we talked about the liberation of Jews from the concentration camps and discussed what that must have felt like for both those being freed and the soldiers liberating them. We had an exciting day celebrating both Ayrton and Nathan's upcoming birthdays. At the end of the day, students got to watch Zootopia together in the gym! What a fun Friday!

A big THANK YOU to Ayrton and Nathan's parents for bringing in pizza, cake, and cookies for us all to share! We had a great time eating and celebrating our boys. Happiest birthday to both of you!

Wednesday February 22, 2017

Hola,

This morning after our meditation we went over the language homework and did some more practice combining sentences. Afterwards, during Science, we had another moon phase practice quiz and then we discussed the main events of chapter 8 in Terabithia. In the afternoon we went up to the computer labs to continue working on our short stories. During Social Studies, we sat in a circle and finished reading our Anne Frank book. Upon finishing, we had a really candid, thoughtful conversation about the story. The students were very touched by it and I was impressed with their level of maturity as we discussed everything. You make me proud grade 4's! =)

Remember we have Family Mass tomorrow beginning at 8:35 am so be on time for school and dressed in your clean and formal school uniform. Thank you!

Tuesday February 21, 2017

Hi everyone,

As I said yesterday it's going to be a very busy week and will stay that way until exams in three weeks. We had a lot of issues today with incomplete homework and disorganization. Please stay organized and on top of all or your assignments. This is your responsibility as a fourth grade student at our international school.

In the morning, after meditation, we learned about commas in a series. Afterwards we spent some time developing the plot and characters in our short stories and talked specifically about dialogue. Next we reviewed the moon phases and did some practice games and then talked briefly about the upcoming Invention Convention (more information to come!) Later in the morning we went upstairs to the computer lab where students were able to start typing up their stories. In Math we learned how to change units. During Social Studies we continued reading and talking about Anne Frank.

Happy Friday everyone!

What a wonderful week we have had. The fierce fourth graders were ferocious workers this morning! After our meditation they wrote their vocabulary quizzes and then their Chapter 11 Math tests. To celebrate all of that hard work we had some fun dancing around to a couple of GoNoodle videos. Then it was time for Social Studies where we continued our Anne Frank study by reading her story together and stopping to discuss throughout. Thank you for all of your thoughtful, wonderful questions!

Our pen pals are writing an article about us in their school newspaper so they requested a couple photos of all of us together!

After morning meditation we spent some time developing the characters and plot for our short stories. Afterwards we started Unit 5 Chapter 12 on measurement. For those students who did not have inch rulers, I printed them out a paper ruler they can use. In Science we had a moon phase pop quiz. Some of you were experts but some still need to review because there will be a test coming up requiring all of that same information! Please use the tools we made in class to help you study. At the end of the day I handed out the pen pal letters and the kids got to work replying.

We made a moon phase wheel for students to practice in case we have a pop quiz on this lesson coming up soon!!! In Math we learned how to solve multi step problems. Great job everyone! At the end of the day we had some fun doing an activity inspired by Valentine's Day that I like to call the Love Train! =)

The kids cut hearts out and we pinned them to their backs. We all wrote nice messages on each other's hearts, so at the end, everyone had ten nice messages about themselves from their classmates! =)

Happy Friday all of you wonderful people!

This morning, after our meditation, students wrote their chapter 2 vocabulary quizzes. Afterwards they did some word work activities for the chapter 3 words. During Math we learned how to divide when there are two quotients. This requires a lot of steps, so please go slowly, write nicely, and take breaks while doing your homework this weekend. And of course, check your answers! During Social Studies we continued to talk about the Holocaust and concentration camps. In the afternoon, students worked with partners to share about their short stories ideas. After deciding on one idea, we started to plan the protagonists by thinking about such things as, what they look like, what they enjoy, what they are like etc.

I hope you all have a great weekend! I am off to the Lantern Festival in Pingxi. I hope to bring back some great photos to share with you!

Happy Monday!

This morning at assembly students made a short presentation about prudence. They led the presentation all on their own and I was very pleased with how it turned out. Congratulations to each and every one of you!

We are picking up speed in quarter 3 so it is as important as ever to stay organized, and keep on top of your assignments. This means writing everything down in your assignment book, highlighting due dates, checking the blog and google docs/emails regularly, and starting early on assignments so that you don't leave everything to the last minute. You can ALL be successful but you need to be organized in order for that to happen.
