Good afternoon all,

This morning we had a grammar class about pronouns and homophones. Afterwards we headed to the elderly home as part of our Community Service day. The fourth graders performed some songs and were very well behaved during the others' presentations. From there we walked to the local parish where the students all helped to do some cleaning. Thanks for all your help grade 4's!

Good afternoon everyone, 

This morning in Reading we continued with The Witches. During Science we took advantage of the beautiful weather and went outside to play a couple of movement games to model predator pray, and herbivore, carnivore,and omnivore relationships. In our discussion circle during Social Sciences we talked about the Jazz Age in the 1920's. 

Important Reminders & Information:

Tomorrow is our annual Community Service Day. 

*We will be leaving the campus at 9:30 and returning for lunch at 11:45 am.

*First we will head to Ruey Fong Nursing Home where students will sing for the elderly there. We will leave at about 10:20 and head to Blessed Mary Paris to volunteer until about 11:30 and then we will head back to school.

*If you have one, please bring a rag or small towel for cleaning the church pews.

Hi everyone,

I'm back! Sorry there was no blog post yesterday but I was down and out with a fever and chest infection. Thanks to all the sweet fourth graders for making me feel so welcome today.

This morning students wrote their vocabulary quizzes and then we went down to the stage to practice for Student Showcase. Today was our first time practicing with microphones and headsets and I think it's really coming together. Keep up the good work!

During Science we completed our Venn diagram comparing and contrasting food chains with food webs.

We had an exciting surprise this morning. A former Dominican teacher who is now back living and teaching in Canada, Miss Scott, and I have arranged for our classes to be transcontinental pen pals. Our first batch of letters arrived this morning! We will be working on our responses throughout the week.

In Math we reviewed yesterday's lesson, taught by the grade 5 teacher Mr.Mckeen, and then we learned how to estimate products by rounding factors.

During Social Studies we learned about the 18th amendment and prohibition.

Hi everyone!

This morning we had another great Reading class with The Witches. We did some reading aloud, some inferring and predicting, and then I asked students a variety of questions based on reading elements we have learned throughout the year. For example, what kind of conflict is presented in the story, what is the inciting incident, who is the antagonist, what point of view is the story told from etc. 

During second period students wrote their first math test of second quarter. It was on algebraic reasoning and they did very well. Good job kiddos!

In Social Studies we talked about the flappers and how they were a symbol for women's independence and of change in the 1920's.

At the end of the day we had a rehearsal for our Student Showcase presentation.

*Create a food web using the papers I handed out in class. Be sure to color everything and make it as neat and beautiful!

Tips (you don't have to do it this way, this is just to help you). You can also use google to help you.

1. Make a few food chains from the same habitat
2. At the bottom of the page, list the producer or producers. If you have more than one food chain with the same producer, only write each producer once.
3. Do one food chain at a time and remember that the arrow always points to the organism that is actually doing the eating.

Hi everyone,

This morning we read The Witches aloud and the kids were having a great time listening to me read with the Grand High Witch's accent! Afterwards we learned how to use function tables in Math and then talked about food webs in Science.

The students put on a most amazing music show for the K2 class, Sister Jackie, Mr.Hilden and myself today. We were all very impressed!

Good afternoon, 

This morning in Science class we talked about prey and predators and students created a foldable study tool for their notebooks. During Language we had a grammar class on possessive pronouns. During our afternoon Social Studies class I handed back yesterday's quizzes and we started Lesson 2 with an introduction to the Roaring Twenties. The kids have been hearing the grade 5's talk about this from last year so they were pretty excited! During last period we did a round of Daily 2 so students had an opportunity to practice reading, writing, and vocabulary skills.

Hi everyone,

This morning during Reading class the students were excited to continue reading and discussing The Witches. We talked about how to write clear, accurate answers to comprehension questions. During Science class we talked about food chains and different types of consumers. Students worked on an interactive notebook activity to demonstrate their understanding.  During Math we started to learn how to write equations with variables to represent word problems. It's a pretty tough concept so I want everyone to practice on IXL tonight. In Social Studies, they wrote their World War 1 and Treaty of Versailles quiz.
